STOP DON'T DO IT!    I CAN MAKE THIS EASY!

Computer Lessons---Yuck!

The combinations of those two words typically generates eyes glazing over, dry mouth, and  a dozen reasons not to learn. Who can blame anyone? RAM, CMOS, BIOS, TCP/IP....it just as well be a coded message from Mars! Well, I hope to change all that with some plain English to help you understand what's going on.

Let's face it:

  1. Your computer is here to stay and only increase in it's the way it influences you and your family's life.

  2. You need enough information about this beast to keep it running smoothly and safely.

  3. It's more convenient to learn how to prevent problems and fix the unavoidable ones yourself. And cheaper!

Now What?  computer lessons and newsletter will gently guide the average computer user to understanding how and why Windows and your computer does what it does....in plain language.

Using lots of actual computer screen shots and photographs, you'll be able to see the material and not be lost in a sea of boring text. We all know that learning something is easier when visual cues are included. (While all screen shots will be from Windows XP, much of the information will be applicable to Windows 98 and ME as well.)

Here are a few of the subject headings that will be covered:

  • Security, security & more security

  • Tons of tips to make your time on the computer more productive

  • Configuring Windows to suit your needs

  • A back up method that will not only protect your data, but will allow you to restore it in 15 minutes while you get a cup of coffee.

  • A little known antivirus that ranked MUCH higher than Norton's or McAfee in detecting wild viruses.

  • Trouble shooting tips. I'll take actual problems and you'll learn how to solve them.

  • Make text easier to read in XP with a single little known check box.

  • Using photos, I'll show you how easy it is to install a DVD drive, hard drives, more memory and other upgrades. You'll wonder why you ever paid a computer store to do this!

Searchable Information

Each lesson will be in the form of a pdf file that you can download at your convenience. You can keep these files on your computer and the free Adobe reader will allow you to search through back issues if you want to find something on a particular subject.

Discussion Group

After submitting your order, you'll need to join the free Yahoo discussion group 'nowwhatlessons' at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nowwhatlessons .  You will be able to ask me questions directly on any of the material in any issue.  (Yearly subscribers only.)

Unlike the computer magazines, I accept no advertising from manufacturers of software and equipment. If I've used and I like it, I'll tell you so and why. If I don't like it, I'll tell you that too, in no uncertain terms!

Some other highlights and subjects:

  • Home Networking-Routers-Wireless set and security.

  • What is a 'clean install' of the Windows operating system and why it's much better than an 'upgrade'.

  • How to use an XP upgrade CD to do a full and clean install.

  • Spyware that's pre-installed on most new computers.

  • How to buy a new computer so that you get the cleanest and fastest machine available. This is important to help insure a conflict free system.

  • Free discussion forum where you may ask questions if you have problems. (Due to the highly variable nature of computer systems, I'll help out as best as I can, but cannot guarantee solutions to any problems.)

This is not the solution!

If you have to take your computer to the store for anything, you're usually looking at minimum charge of $75 to $100. And unfortunately if you can get away with it, you'll probably wind up putting up with the aggravation of your computer not working right for weeks before you break down and finally get it fixed or upgraded.

So....what's it worth to you to not put up with a cranky computer, the possible loss of your data, and the eventual hassle of dragging your computer down to the local store for a simple fix or upgrade that you can do yourself?

A Lot-for a Little

How about just $48 for all of this information! For just $4.80 each, you'll receive 10 issues a year.  Hey, at this price, it makes a great gift!

Because many of the lessons build on information from previous lessons, your subscription will begin with Issue 01.

Think about this.

If you use the information in just one lesson to prevent a problem, solve a problem or perform an upgrade that you would have to pay to have done otherwise, you have effectively just placed somewhere around $50-$75 into your pocket. Not to mention, hassles, possible data loss, and all of the knowledge that you'll be gaining.

It won't be long before you're know as the computer guru in your family!
