Computer 101How would you like to be able to do a simple 5 minute upgrade to your computer that will make it run faster for a mere $25. The local computer store will usually charge you around $135 to $150 for this procedure. And how would you like to learn about an internet trick that will almost double your download speed while surfing the internet?
While working at your computer are you frequently talking to yourself and saying phrases such as, "Now why is it doing that?", "I know I downloaded the file, but I don't know why I can't find it." ? You need Computer 101.
I have found that many people with computers don't know where to turn for help when things don't go as expected. This course will help you understand how Windows 'thinks'. You'll learn how easy it is to upgrade your machine. You'll learn how to keep the cobwebs cleaned out and keep it running smooth. My classes use such technical term as 'cobwebs' and 'getting confused' rather than 'invalid active X controls' and 'page fault errors'.
We start by taking a look at the 'innards' of a machine. You'll learn how to add or change expansion cards, hard drives and other components. It's so easy, I have grandmothers that have never done anything more than check email, ready to add hard drives.
It's fun and explained in such a way that you'll actually understand how Windows does it thing (That's some more of my technical talk!) rather than just knowing what buttons to push for a particular situation. I'll give you lots of places to look to for help later on when there's no one around but you. We'll cover how to keep your computer organized. You'll learn about dividing a hard drive to make it easier to keep Windows under control. You'll learn about the Windows swap file and why it should be moved to another section.
I'll show you how to create folders and organize your computer's 'filing cabinet'. With the 'filing cabinet' properly arranged, you'll take a look at some very helpful backup software that is not commonly known about. You'll learn the right way to properly install a program and some of the features that Windows has, but most don't take advantage of. We'll also look at lots of shortcuts to help you speed up your work. Plus, you'll learn how to maintain Windows and the computer itself.
Then we get into the internet. Did you know there's a trick that will allow you to almost double your download speed when surfing and downloading stuff from the internet? We'll cover internet security and what you should and should not be concerned about when it comes to security. I'll show you how to protect yourself from hackers with free software---just set it and forget it!
A CD is provided with lots of helpful demo software.
