Monitor Adjustments

The first step in seeing proper colors on your computer monitor is proper adjustment of the monitor. Do not confuse this with creating a color profile for your monitor.

To adjust your monitor, look at the grayscale chart below. You should be able to see 17 distinct blocks that vary from solid black on the left to solid white on the right, with varying levels between.

Use your monitor's contrast and brightness levels to make adjustments until you can view all 17 blocks distinctly.

This is just the first step. To correct for your particular monitor's colors, you will need to create a profile. To do this, you will need a device that can read the colors your monitor displays and the software to go with that device that will generate corrections in the form of a profile. The cost for these devices have dropped dramatically in the last year and are now around $100 or less. I suggest that you look at www.colorvision.com . I have been using their products for a number of years. I have been very happy with them.

Properly adjusting your monitor, and creating a color correction profile, will cure 90% of your monitor display and printing problems when it comes to proper color.

Enjoy
